Formatting Text in Word

Formatting text is one of the most basic yet useful functions in Word. You can make professional looking documents using simple text formatting. We will look at how to underline, bold, italicize, change font size, and change font color of text.

Let's learn how to format text in Microsoft Word.

How to Bold Text in Word:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.(How do I open microsoft word?)
  2. Type in text.
  3. Highlight the text you would like to bold.
  4. Click on the bold symbol on the formatting toolbar.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Font.
  8. The format font window will pop-up. Click bold.
  9. Click OK.

How to Underline Text in Word:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.(How do I open microsoft word?)
  2. Type in text.
  3. Highlight the text you would like to underline.
  4. Click on the underline symbol on the formatting toolbar.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Font.
  8. The format font window will pop-up. Click the arrow to the right of "underline style".
  9. Click on the style of line you would like.
  10. Click OK.

How to Italicize Text in Word:

  2. Type in text.
  3. Highlight the text you would like to italicize.
  4. Click on the italics symbol on the formatting toolbar.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Font.
  8. The format font window will pop-up. Click italics.
  9. Click OK.

How to Change Font Size of Text in Word:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.(How do I open microsoft word?)
  2. Type in text.
  3. Highlight the text you would like to resize.
  4. Click on the arrow beside the "12" on the formatting toolbar. Select the new size.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Font.
  8. The format font window will pop-up. Click the desired size.
  9. Click OK.

How to Change Font Colour of Text in Word:

  2. Type in text.
  3. Highlight the text you would like to change colour.
  4. Click on the arrow beside the "A" with the thick underline (current colour of the text) on the formatting toolbar. Select a new colour.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Font.
  8. The format font window will pop-up. Click the desired font colour.
  9. Click OK.

How to Change the Font of Text in Word:

  2. Type in text.
  3. Highlight the text you would like to change font face.
  4. Click on the arrow beside the "Times New Roman" (current font face) on the formatting toolbar. Select the new font.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Font.
  8. The format font window will pop-up. Click the arrow to the right of "Font Color".
  9. Click the desired colour. We will chose red.
  10. Click OK.
