Changing Layouts & Columns in Word

In Word, there are is a function to change the number of columns the text is in for making newsletters, articles, flyers, etc... We will learn to use those features to create a nice two column newsletter and a three column flyer.

Reasons to Format Columns in Word:
  • To create professional looking newsletter
  • To create professional looking flyers
  • Because you want to.

How to Create a Two-Column Newsletter in Word:

  1. Open Microsoft Word.(How do I open microsoft word?)
  2. Type in a few sentences.
  3. Highlight the text you have typed.
  4. Click "Format" on the menu bar.
  5. Click "Columns...".
  6. Click on the image above "Two". (Want to add a line between the columns? Check the "Line Between" box.)
  7. Click Ok.
How to Create a Three-Column Flyer in Word:

I will change this up a little since I'm sure you can already do three columns. We will also turn the page so it looks better.
  1. Open Microsoft Word.(How do I open microsoft word?)
  2. Type in a few sentences.
  3. Highlight the text you have typed.
  4. Click "Format" on the menu bar.
  5. Click "Columns...".
  6. Click on the image above "Three". (Want to add a line between the columns? Check the "Line Between" box.)
  7. Click Ok.

    To turn the page to landscape.
  8. Click on "File" on the menu bar.
  9. Click on "Page Setup..."
  10. Click on the "Paper Size" tab.
  11. Click on the circle beside "landscape".
  12. Click "Ok".
    *Note you may not see three different columns. It may look like one small column on the left side of the sheet. This means there is not enough text to fill the other columns so type in some more text.
Now you are a desktop publisher. You can make newsletters and flyers effortlessly. No telephone poll stands a chance. Cover the neighbourhood.
