Adding Hyperlinks to Text

Now that you know how to format text, let's learn how to create hyperlinks with text. First, what is a hyperlink? Well you know all the blue underlined text you click on to move from page to page on the Internet. Those are hyperlinks.

A hyperlink does not have to be blue in colour or underlined but it was the original standard set so users could recognize hyperlinks.

Reasons to add hyperlinks in Word documents:

  • To link to websites for more information or sourcing
  • To bring up additional information from another file (ie. Images, Excel spreadsheets, Powerpoint presentations)
  • To play an audio or video file from the document
  • To link to different sections in the document (table of contents)

Use hyperlinks to help users navigate your documents easily or to link to other documents and web pages. In other words, "Beam me up Scotty!".
