Creating Graphs in Excel - Image Tutorial

It's great to be able to use all the excel functions and create data but graphs are a big part of interpreting data. Below we will look at creating graphs in Excel.

Data for the Graph Tutorial:

  1. Download the graphing data excel spreadsheet.
    Graphing Data Spreadsheet
  2. Click on "Graphing Data Spreadsheet" above.

  3. Click Open (if it does not open automatically).
How to Create a Graph in Excel:
  1. Highlight the Cells with the data you would like to graph. (in this case, A2 to D16)
To highlight A2 to D16 (in this case) you can place your pointer over A2,
click and hold the left mouse button then drag over D16 and release the button

  2. Click on the chart wizard button on the toolbar.

  3. Select the Chart Type you would like. (Choose Line)
  4. Select the Chart sub-type. (Choose the top left sub-type)
  5. Click Next.

  6. All our data is correct so you can chose next. (This is where you would change the way your data is used. ie. If your data went from left to right instead of top to bottom, you would chose rows instead of columns.)
  7. Click Next.

  8. This is where we add titles to our chart. Type in the following data:
    Chart title = "Calorie Counter"
Category (X) Axis = "Day of the Week"
    Value (Y) Axis = "Calories"
  9. Click Next.

  10. Now we select the location of the chart. Click the circle beside "as object in" then click on "Sheet1".
  11. Click Finish.
