Formatting Cells in Excel

Hopefully, you are like me and enjoy pretty colors. In excel, you can change the cell color so your spreadsheet looks psychedelic (or professional if you want to be boring). When you combine cell formatting with formatted text. Yikes! You will be unstoppable.

I will warn you. It is at your own risk that you learn these skills. People will come up to you frequently saying "Hey Jeff, Do you know how to change cell color in Excel". If I have done my job, you will be able to answer yes.

This lesson will show how to change cell colors and add borders.

How to Change Cell Color in Excel:

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.(How do I open microsoft excel?)
  2. Click on the cell you would like to change color..
  3. Click on the cell background button on the formatting toolbar.
  4. Click on the color you would like.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Cells.
  8. The format cells window will pop-up. Click the "Patterns" tab.
  9. Choose your color.
  10. Click OK.
How to add Border to your Cells in Excel:

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.(How do I open microsoft excel?)
  2. Click on the cell you would like to change the border of.
  3. Click on the cell border button on the formatting toolbar.
  4. Click on the border style you would like.

  5. Or (instead of step 4)
  6. Click Format on the menu bar.
  7. Click Cells.
  8. The format cells window will pop-up. Click the "Border" tab.
  9. Choose your line style.
  10. Choose your border style.
  11. Click OK.
It was a short lesson but you should go and play around with these skills now. Mix and match them to create awesome spreadsheets. The more I think about it the odder an "awesome spreadsheet" sounds. Oh Well!?!
