To find instructions on this (or any website with lots of content)
To find text within a file or document (this applies to most programs)
To find a specific email in your email program (not online email accounts: hotmail, gmail, yahoo mail)
Etc...
To
find words on a website, a document, a file, an email:
To make you use this tool I will be very sneaky. I have actually hidden
a word on this website which you will not be able to see unless you search
for it. "victory"
is yours. Find it.
Click on "Edit" in the menu bar..
Click on "Find on this page..." or simply "Find" (in some other programs).
Type in the secret word. (Hint: It is above just above the directions
and sticks out)
Click "Next" to get to the hidden word if it isn't the first result.
To
find and replace words in a document or file:
This is extremely useful when it comes to typing and editing files in programs
such as word, excel and powerpoint.
Copy and paste the following text into the program. You remember copy
and paste don't you. How to Use Copy and Paste
"This is a test text written for tutorialcomputer.com.
I was told by fixing it I could achieve world domination. I was told
victori was mine. Unfortunately, its hard to have victori when they
can't even type it without making a mistake. I am a computer beginner
and don't have a lot of experience with document editing and using these
programs but I will get there. I will have victori. After this lesson,
I will actually be able to change words throughout documents without
having to find them manually and change them all one-by-one. It's going
to be great. I remember the countless hours I used to spend at editing
page on top of page manually and wasting all my time fixing things that
I thought could be easier and quicker. Well now victori is mine."
Oops! Silly me! I typed in "victori" instead of "victory". Could you
fix them all for me please?
Click on "Edit" in the menu bar.
Click on "Replace". (I have Word and can't see replace? Help?)
Type in the word you want to change "victori" and the word to change
it to "victory".
